We will get things wrong. What matters is what happens next.
How to report an error
Email hello@18byte.com with the page URL and what you believe is incorrect. A link to a source is helpful but not required. We read everything sent to that address.
What we do with it
We check the claim against the primary source. If we were wrong, we fix it. What happens then depends on how much it mattered.
- Substantive errors that change the meaning of a story, a price, a verdict, or a recommendation are corrected in the text, and a dated correction note is added at the foot of the page explaining what was wrong and what it now says. The original error is described, not silently erased.
- Material updates where the facts have moved on rather than being wrong at the time get a dated update note and a new modified date.
- Typographical and formatting fixes are made without a note. Flagging these would bury the corrections that actually matter.
When we cannot verify a claim
If a fact in a published piece turns out to be unverifiable, we either replace it with a sourced statement or remove it and note the removal. If a whole story cannot be supported, we unpublish it and say why rather than quietly deleting it.
Product profiles
Model and product profiles carry a last reviewed date and, where relevant, a price check date. Prices and capabilities change constantly. If a price on this site is out of date, that is a correction and we want to hear about it.
Timing
We aim to respond to correction requests within two working days. Corrections to a published price or a factual error in a live story take priority over everything else in the queue.
